About us

Welcome to Gulpa Pre school

Gulpa Preschool has been operating as a preschool since 1984, over 25 years of enjoyment and learning for the children of Deniliquin and surrounding districts. At Gulpa Preschool, we value this long, successful history with links to strong core values that support our service delivery. Over the years we have continued to evolve, to reflect societal changes and the needs of our community

INTERACTIONS WITH CHILDREN

Through the development of a relationship and thoughtful observation, every child is supported in their learning journey. By acknowledging that children have a thirst for knowledge of their world, a desire to order this knowledge and a need to share this time of awakening with their peers in a beautiful, rich and ordered environment we aim to maximise children’s learning. This relates to their experiences, that programs are rich and meaningful for each individual child. Children are encouraged to critically reflect on their involvement in the daily program, their opinion is valued and respected by others sharing this environment. By focusing on the development of the whole child, children are encouraged to manage their own behaviour, we promote self regulation and understand that clear rules create boundaries for this development to occur. As an ongoing concern we promote healthy life choices, including the provision for physical activity in our daily program and encouraging the consumption of healthy food items.

ACCESS AND PARTICIPATION, EQUALITY AND INCLUSION

Access and Participation, Equality and Inclusion

Gulpa Preschool is unique in size and stature. We strongly believe that in maintaining smaller group sizes, we preserve a nurturing environment that encourages positive interactions, mixed age grouping that fosters peer tutoring and the development of reciprocal relationships. While the children develop a sense of belonging in a secure environment, this environment is still diverse enough to expose each child to varying beliefs and personalities. Each child is an individual, not to be compared with others, we endeavour to focus on the positives, working with individual interests and own learning styles. Within this inclusive environment we strive to ensure that each child feels valued and supported. Throughout our program, we advocate positive guidance and modelling of acceptable behaviour.

DECISION MAKING

As a small staff unit, each staff member’s opinion is valued and respected.
Continuous, open communication enables the daily decision making process to work to achieve the best possible outcome for Gulpa Preschool. Regular team meetings ensure that issues can be discussed and ideas developed to improve our daily practice and service delivery.
Monthly committee meetings provide an opportunity for our management committee to make decisions and implement courses of action. The decision making model continues to flow in cyclical motion.

History of Gulpa Pre-School

Gulpa Community School was originally established in 1984 by Joyce Sanders and situated at the Gulpa Creek Community, Cobb Highway, Deniliquin.

It operated as a Montessori style centre with a Montessori trained teacher and offered education from pre-school to Year 6.

The School moved to Deniliquin in 1989 and then operated as a pre-school for children aged 3 to school age.

Some original aspects of philosophy and the educational environment have continued to be present.
